About the race
The Great Frosty Forest is a multi-distance trail race held at Prince William Forest Park Campground in Dumfries, VA on January 31, 2027. Points from the event count toward Year-Long series for 5k, 10k, endurance, and Back of the Pack, and also toward the Winter Series. A 50K trail run has been added to this event.
The course is wooded and technical with several hills, tree roots, stones, and steep inclines. Surface details by distance are provided: the 5k is a trail run; the 10k is mostly trail with over a mile of paved road; the half marathon and full marathon are approximately 75% trail and 25% pavement. Water stations and approximate mile markers differ by distance. Portajohns will be available near the start and finish.
Runners receive a finisher's medal, a technical event shirt, and chip timing. Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to first and second place in multiple age categories; overall top-three finishers are not eligible for age-group awards. Walkers are welcome and a virtual run option is offered for participants who cannot attend in person. Packet pickup is available at the event and there will be no on-site race registration.
