Fall Backyard Burn - Hemlock Overlook

The event takes place at Hemlock Overlook in Clifton, VA on Sunday November 15, 2026. The park covers about 425 acres along the Bull Run and often has wildlife sightings such as deer, beaver, turkey, osprey and great blue heron.

The race course uses hiking trails including the Bull Run Occoquan Trail, old dirt roads, and open fields. Runners encounter rocks and roots and sections that run along the Bull Run. The course layout includes multiple spectator-friendly areas designated for family and friends.

Distances and elevation:

  • 5.2 miles (1 lap) - 600 feet elevation gain
  • 9.5 miles (2 laps) - 1,200 feet elevation gain

Facilities and logistics include park bathrooms at the start and finish; 5.2 mile runners pass the bathrooms at mile 2.6, and 9.5 mile runners pass them at miles 2.6 and 7. The race is staged inside the programming area of Horizons at Hemlock with gravel parking at the main trailhead, an adjacent winery lot, and nearby fields. Participants are asked to follow race parking signs and volunteer instructions.

Notable race rules state that in-ear headphones are not allowed, pets and pacers are not permitted, baby strollers are prohibited, and runners must stay on designated trails.
