The Gamble

Hendersonville, United States • 19 Apr 2026

Event Information

The Gamble is a running event where the total race distance is determined on the day. At the start, organizers will roll dice, and the number that appears dictates the number of laps all participants will run. Each lap is approximately 1.67 miles. The race is structured so that the minimum possible distance is 3.33 miles, and the maximum possible distance is 20 miles. Participants must begin with all gear they plan to use, as no extra preparation time is given after the dice roll.

The Course

The loop course is a figure-8 design featuring varied terrain. It includes dirt singletrack, short paved pathways, a couple of hills, a few stairs, and some gravel. If it has rained in the weeks prior, runners may encounter mud. The course uses intersections where marshals will be present to direct runners.

Aid & Facilities

An aid station is located at the start and end of each loop. It provides water, electrolytes, and basic nutrition but is cupless, so runners must bring their own container for hydration. Restrooms are available nearby but are not directly on the course.

Other Details

Proceeds from the event support The Run828 Foundation and the North Carolina Mountain Trail Runners (NCMTR). The event will be held, rain or shine, with a final cutoff time of 6 hours after the start. No refunds are offered for the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
