The Gamble

The Gamble is a variable-distance loop race held in Hendersonville, NC at 2 Jackson Park Rd. The event uses a roughly 1.67 mile loop in a figure 8 layout; a dice roll at the start determines how many laps each competitor must complete. Course surfaces include dirt singletrack, short paved paths, some gravel, a couple of hills and a few stairs. If rain occurs near race day, parts of the course can be muddy. Course marshals will direct runners where the loop crosses itself and where the course meets roads.

Possible race distances range from a minimum of 3.33 miles to a maximum of 20 miles. Aid will be available at the loop start and end; the aid station is cupless, so competitors must bring their own container for hydration and are advised to carry any special nutrition they want. Restrooms are not directly on the loop but are very close to the aid station.

NCMTR members receive free entry via a coupon code available through the NCMTR site. There are no refunds. The absolute cutoff is six hours after the start; organizers may set a shorter cutoff if the rolled distance is considerably shorter. The event is planned rain or shine and will not have a makeup date if canceled for weather. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
