The Frostbite Solstice Trail Race 2026

The Frostbite Solstice Trail Race is a timed running event held at Marydale Park in Mount Hope, Ontario. The race is designed around the duration of daylight on the shortest day of the year. Participants run on a trail loop of approximately 3.7 km, featuring a mix of tree-covered paths and open fields with short rolling hills.

The event offers several individual and team categories based on segments of the solar day:

  • Full Solstice: 8 hours and 58 minutes of running.
  • Full Solstice Relay: A team format for up to 5 runners over the 8 hour and 58 minute duration.
  • Half Solstice: 4 hours and 29 minutes of running.
  • Quarter Solstice: 2 hours and 15 minutes of running.

The race site includes on-site parking, restroom facilities, and a large pavilion for shelter. One aid station is available on each loop, providing water, electrolyte drinks, sweet and salty snacks, soup, and hot beverages. This is a cup-less event, so runners must provide their own collapsible cups or bottles.

All participants receive a finisher's medal and a crewneck sweatshirt. The event is sanctioned by Athletics Ontario and supports the charity Hamilton Out Of The Cold. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
