The Eckington Epic : key facts
The Eckington Epic is a self-guided trail race held on Sunday 22 February 2026. It starts and finishes at Green Lawns Community Centre in Marsh Lane (S21), located on the trails around Eckington and Marsh Lane, just south of Sheffield in North Derbyshire. The advertised distance is 7 miles. The minimum age to take part is 18. Entries open 13 November 2025 and close 21 February 2026. Entry fees are listed as £5 for UK Athletics affiliated runners and £7 for unaffiliated runners; UKA affiliated runners receive a £2 discount. The event is organised by Peaks and Dales Guiding and will be run under UK Athletics rules.
Course, safety and event rules
The route follows woodland trails, rolling farmland and easy bridleways with views towards the Moss Valley and the edges of the Peak District. The course contains a mix of runnable sections and some climbs. The race is self-guided: participants receive written route instructions on the day, there are no GPX files provided and the route is unmarked by marshals. Runners are responsible for their own safety; the organiser advises carrying a waterproof jacket, warm layers, sufficient water and a working mobile phone.
