The Ascent Red River Gorge 5K & 10K Trail Races
The event offers two trail race distances on private property in Red River Gorge, with start and finish at Natural Bridge Campground in Slade, Kentucky. The courses pass near natural arches and viewpoints on the property and are held on terrain with significant climbs.
Distances:
- 5K (3.1 miles)
- 10K (6.2 miles)
Both races have a four hour time limit to complete the course. Awards are presented for the Top 3 men and Top 3 women overall, and for the Top 3 men and Top 3 women in 10-year age groups. Minimum age to participate is 12 years. Entry fees are stated as $30 for the standard entry and a special price of $20 is offered for participants ages 12 to 18. Finishers receive medals and commemorative poly/cotton T-shirts while supplies last.
The event is cupless for 2026; participants are encouraged to bring a personal water bottle or hydration system. Water will be available at the campground before the race and in orange coolers at several locations along the course. Packet pickup is scheduled at the Natural Bridge Campground pavilion the day before the event and there is a last chance pickup on race morning at the same pavilion. Route maps are not yet published.
