Event Overview

Tackle the Tar is an obstacle course race and family event held at the Rocky Mount Sports Complex in North Carolina. Organized by the Rotary Club of Rocky Mount, the event utilizes several locations for its course, including the sports complex grounds, historic Battle Park, and the E.B. Grain Company property.

The primary distance for the obstacle course is 3.1 miles (5K). The layout features a mud pit and more than 20 different obstacles that participants must navigate. The event offers several categories for participation, including competitive heats, non-competitive fun runs, and specific heats for first responders and local colleges. A shorter distance is also available for younger participants.

  • 3.1 miles obstacle course

Participants receive a T-shirt, a medal, and a goodie bag upon completion. For participants over the age of 21, one beer is also included. Proceeds from the event are used to fund college scholarships for students residing in the Rocky Mount area. Run scenic looped trails at Medoc Mountain State Park with single track, varied hills and a summit loop in 5 and 10 mile options. Limited to 500 runners, the race offers shirts, unique medals and hearty postrace soup and hot dogs.
