Tackle the Tar

Tackle the Tar is an obstacle course event hosted by the Rotary Club of Rocky Mount at the Rocky Mount Sports Complex. The course runs through Battle Park and the E.B. Grain Company property and includes a mud pit and more than 15 obstacles set across varied terrain.

• 5K Obstacle Course Race
• One mile kids obstacle race for ages 8 to 13

Obstacles on past courses have included a 16 foot wall, multiple mud pits, tire and log climbs, culvert tunnels, rope nets and spider web sections, trailer and truck crawls, pond crossings, slides, and a school bus obstacle. The event offers both competitive and fun heats and has separate heats for first responders and local college participants.

All registered racers receive a T-shirt, a medal, and a goodie bag; participants over 21 are eligible for one free beer. Spectator entry is free; spectators may need cash for parking and purchases from vendors. Packet pickup is available on the Friday and Saturday of race week and registered participants receive further packet pickup details by email. All proceeds support college scholarships for students in the Rocky Mount area; since 2016 the event has helped award over $720,000 in scholarships.
