Pittsfield, United States • 8 Aug 2026
Event overview
The 14th Annual Sweltering Summer Ultra is an 8-hour track event held in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on August 8, 2026. The event benefits the AYJ Fund, a northern Berkshire County non-profit that supports children facing a cancer diagnosis. Registration closes on August 6. The race is part of the BURCS BADASS race series; points and cumulative awards are available.
Course and race format
The event takes place at Clapp Park, on a certified dirt and cinder track that forms a 0.355 mile loop. Runners start counter-clockwise and switch directions at the four-hour mark. A strict 8-hour time limit applies; no partial laps count. Walkers are permitted, and participants may run or walk as many laps as they choose. All runners receive a marathon split for their first 74 laps.
Packet pick-up is race day only. Chip timing is provided by MCM Timing, with a live leaderboard available. An aid station operates trackside with a bottle drop/drop-in system, prepackaged items, and a no-contact bottle refill system for water and sports drink. Runners may set up personal areas along the course with a required setback from the track edge. Ice pops and pizza are provided for mid- to late-event refreshment.
Awards, virtual option and other notes
Overall champion awards and age-division awards are given across standard age groups, plus longevity and mile awards. Organizers may offer a 12-hour virtual option with eligible dates August 1 to August 14; virtual entrants must provide proof of distance and are not eligible for age-group awards. Entry deferral for one year is allowed if requested in writing before July 1. Volunteer roles are listed for race operations and aid station support.
