Event Overview
The Sweltering Summer Ultra is an 8-hour running event held at Clapp Park in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The event is in its 14th year.
Course Details
The race takes place on a 0.355-mile certified dirt and cinder track loop. Runners start running counter-clockwise and switch directions at the 4-hour mark. They are permitted to run the width of the track or on the grass along the outside surface. The time limit is 8 hours for all participants, and no partial laps are counted. The event is walker-friendly.
Aid and Logistics
A signature bottle drop system is in place trackside for quick refills of water and Gatorade. Prepackaged snacks, ice pops, and pizza delivered in the afternoon are provided. Runners may also set up personal areas along the course, ensuring they are 3 feet from the track's outside edge. Chip timing with a live leaderboard is provided.
Awards and Registration
Awards are given for overall champions and age divisions (0-12, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+). Lifetime longevity and mileage awards are also presented. Discount codes are available for youth runners, participants who have run the event at least three times, and service members. Proceeds benefit the AYJ Fund, a nonprofit supporting children facing a cancer diagnosis.
Other Information
A virtual race option for a 12-hour distance may be available. Entry can be deferred one year if the runner cannot attend. The event is part of the BURCS BADASS race series.
