Sweltering Summer Ultra

The Sweltering Summer Ultra is an annual 8 hour track event held at Clapp Park, 215 West Housatonic Street, Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The event uses a certified dirt and cinder track with a loop length of 0.355 miles. Runners begin counter clockwise and the field switches directions at the four hour mark. Participants may run the full width of the track or use the outside grass surface.

Chip timing and a live leaderboard are provided. The event operates on an 8 hour time limit; no partial laps count. Packet pick up is available race day only. An on course aid system includes a signature bottle drop and a no contact bottle refill system for water and electrolyte drink. Prepackaged snacks will be available, ice pops are planned mid morning and pizza will be delivered for afternoon pickup. Runners may set up personal aid areas trackside provided they remain three feet from the outside edge of the track.

Awards for overall champions and age division awards are presented at the conclusion of the event; age groups include 0-12, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and 80+. Lifetime longevity and mile awards are also given.

A virtual option may be offered with a 12 hour format and a handmade finisher medal. Event proceeds benefit the AYJ Fund. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
