Sweltering Summer Ultra

The Sweltering Summer Ultra is the 14th annual eight hour running event organized by BURCS at Clapp Park, 215 West Housatonic Street, Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The event is held on a certified dirt and cinder track that measures 0.355 miles per loop and includes an in person race and a virtual option with eligible dates August 1 to August 14. Entry fees listed range from USD 53.50 to USD 110.00 and registration closes on August 6.

Runners start counter clockwise and switch directions at the four hour mark. The time limit for the main event is eight hours and no partial laps count. Walkers may participate and runners may use the full width of the track or run on the outside grass surface. The first 74 laps register as a marathon split.

Chip timing is provided with a live leaderboard. An aid station operates with a signature bottle drop and individual table space trackside, a no contact bottle refill system, and prepackaged items. Participants may set up personal areas along the course provided they are three feet from the outside edge of the track.

Awards are given to overall champions and in age divisions including 0 to 12, 13 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, 70 to 79, and 80 plus. Lifetime longevity and mile awards are also presented. Youth under 20 receive a 50 percent discount with code YOUTH50. Runners with at least three prior Sweltering events may use code SERIALRUNNER for a 10 percent discount. Teachers, active and retired service members, and first responders may use code SERVICE for a 10 percent discount. Virtual runners receive a handmade medal; virtual entries are not eligible for age group awards and proof of distance is required. Proceeds benefit the AYJ Fund. Notchview Ultra in Windsor, MA runs July 10 to 13, 2026 and offers multiple timed and distance events from 6 hours to 100.7 miles. The race uses a groomed 1.9 mile perimeter loop with an aid station and on-site amenities.
