Sunset Bay Trail Runs: Sunset Bay State Park

Sunset Bay Trail Runs takes place on August 29, 2026 at Sunset Bay State Park near Coos Bay and Charleston, Oregon. The event offers several organized distances on trails along the Oregon coast.

Distances offered include:

• Half marathon
• 15K
• 4 mile trail run
• 1 mile beach fun run

The course runs mostly off road with hilly sections through woods and a mostly flat cliff segment with ocean views. Wildlife such as sea lions may be visible from the cliff section. The course is open to vehicle traffic on some parts, and the event is RRCA sanctioned.

Packet pickup and the start and finish area are at the gazebo on the far south end of Sunset Bay. Packet pickup is available race morning only. There will be water and Gatorade at the start and finish and snacks at the finish. One aid station on course serves 15K and half marathon runners with water, gels and other snacks; the 15K passes it twice and the half marathon passes it three times. Restrooms are located at about 4 miles for 15K and half marathon participants. Cups are provided but participants are encouraged to carry a bottle to reduce waste.

Safety rules prohibit headphones, bicycles, animals, rollerblades, skateboards and jogging strollers. Ribbons are awarded to the top three overall and top three in each age group. A random prize drawing awards a donated gift card to one present finisher from each race. Event proceeds are donated to the Marshfield High School Cross Country Team.
