Strides of Honor - Mid Michigan College
Strides of Honor is a four hour running and walking challenge held on Mid Michigan College campuses and trails to honor those who have served in the military. The four hour format reflects four core values named for the Nation's veterans: Honor, Courage, Commitment, and Sacrifice. Community members may participate individually or as part of a team.
Registered participants can compete solo or in teams of up to four. Registration fees are non refundable and vary by date; day of event registration accepts cash only. Spectators may attend free of charge. Registered entrants receive chip timing, a commemorative token, and post event fresh fruit and hydration.
The course is a marked loop of approximately 4 miles that begins near the Poet Family Outdoor Education Center and loops through campus and adjacent wooded trail systems. Surface types include wooded walking paths and mountain bike trails. The route uses Entry, Oak, Cedar, and Elm trails, with mile markers at Miles 1, 2, and 3 and two designated team substitution points. Terrain features rolling hills and moderate elevation changes; the course starts at 1,034 ft, rises to a maximum of 1,091 ft, and has about 102 ft of gain. Each loop may take about 60 to 90 minutes depending on pace. No new laps are to be started after the 3.5 hour mark. A shorter accessible pavement loop is available, and some trail sections are not wheelchair accessible.
Parking is free at the Poet Family Outdoor Education Center and nearby lots. The campus is alcohol and tobacco free. Participants must agree to the event waiver and multimedia release terms. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
