Step Outdoors TRYathlon & 5K - Hills Creek State Park, Wellsboro PA
The Step Outdoors TRYathlon is an introductory multi-discipline event held at Hills Creek State Park. The event emphasizes participation and personal challenge over competition and can be completed by individuals or by teams of two or three sharing the legs. The park landscape is noted as spectator friendly.
The event follows established routes that traverse park roads, trails, and the lake. A stand-alone 5K option uses the same course and start location as the TRYathlon.
Distances and legs:
- 5 kilometers run around the perimeter of the lake on park roads and trails
- ≈1.75 miles paddle around temporary markers on the lake
- 8.0 miles bike on hard top and dirt roads in and around the park
Since 2015 there are no competitive categories and all finishers are recognized. Registration is capped at 150 participants; in-person day-of registration returns for 2026 while advance registration remains available. An event shirt is guaranteed for registrations received by September 1. Routes are planned to remain the same as in recent years and historical results and photos from prior years are available.
