State Games of West Virginia Trail Run
The State Games of West Virginia features a series of trail running and walking events held at Heritage Farm in Huntington. This event serves as an official national qualifier for the State Games of America. Participants who earn medals are eligible to represent West Virginia at the 2026 State Games of America in Happy Valley, Pennsylvania, as well as the 2028 event in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The event offers several distances across the Appalachian terrain:
- 11K Trail Run: An extended version of the 5K course.
- 5K Trail Run/Walk: A route starting at the covered bridge, ascending the Grindstone Trail, and descending via the Corn Husker Trail.
- 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk: A farm walk or run showcasing the local scenery.
For the 11K and 5K distances, medals are awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers. Medals are also provided for the top three male and female participants in age groups including under 18, 18-35, 36-50, 51-64, and 65+. The 1 Mile event includes a kid division with medals for boys and girls in age groups 5 and under, 6-10, and 11-15, as well as awards for the top three adult finishers.
Registered participants receive a 2026 State Games of West Virginia shirt. The State Games of West Virginia is associated with the National Congress of State Games and represents the 30th state to organize such a statewide sports festival.
