Event Overview
The Hurricane 100k is a trail running event held on the Meeks Mountain Trails in Hurricane, West Virginia. It is organized by the City of Hurricane and the Dumont Tri County YMCA.
Distances and Format
The event offers two formats:
- A solo 100k (62 miles).
- A 100k relay for teams of three.
Course and Schedule
The course consists of 100% single-track mountain trail run on 10.3-mile loops. Solo runners complete six laps. There is a cutoff time for starting the sixth and final lap. The race headquarters, crew pit, and team area are located at a shelter.
Participant Information
The event is described as being for "the heartiest of runners." Solo runners may use pacers for the final two loops. Crews, families, and spectators are welcome, with a playground and open trails nearby. Registration is limited to 150 runners.
Awards and Recognition
A total prize purse of $10,000 is available for solo 100k runners, with additional bonuses for course records. Relay awards are hand-crafted for the top all-male, all-female, and coed teams. All solo finishers receive a belt buckle. All participants receive a hooded sweatshirt, a finisher's award, and a tote bag. The event is a Trail Sisters approved race.
Relay Details
Relay teams consist of three runners. One timing chip is issued per team and must be handed off at the start/finish line after each lap. For coed teams, a female runner must complete at least two of the six laps. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
