Southern Grit Endurance Challenge

The Southern Grit Endurance Challenge is a timed multi-distance event held at the historic Rousey Home Place in Parksville, Kentucky. The course is situated in the "Knobs" region, a transitional landscape between the Appalachian Plateau and the Bluegrass region characterized by steep wooded hills and fertile farmland.

Participants compete on a 5.4-mile loop that features 1,100 feet of elevation gain per lap. The route passes scenic landmarks including waterfalls, ponds, and three cabins, and reaches a fire tower that offers panoramic views of the surrounding terrain. This is a cup-free event, meaning participants are responsible for bringing their own hydration systems.

Available event categories include:

  • 3 Hour Run or Ruck
  • 6 Hour Run or Ruck
  • 12 Hour Run or Ruck
  • 24 Hour Run or Ruck

A main aid station is located at the start-finish line, providing water, electrolytes, and hot food. Because the course is a loop, participants have frequent access to their own gear and supplies at the central area. The Ruck divisions require participants to carry specific weighted packs based on body weight, which are verified before and after the event. Winners in all divisions are determined by the total number of full laps completed within the designated time limit. Primitive camping is available on-site for participants throughout the race weekend. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
