South West Coast 50 (Ultra Challenge)

The South West Coast 50 is an Ultra Challenge event held at Dunster basecamp on Saturday 25 July 2026. The route uses the South West Coast Path and sections of Exmoor, including the first Minehead section of the coastal path. The main 50 km loop starts and finishes at Dunster basecamp and includes about 1600 m of climb. Basecamp sits in the shadow of Dunster Castle.

Course options and support

• 50 km loop, Dunster to Dunster, ~1600 m climb
• 25 km loop options, each ~25 km (one option is the first half along the coastal path, the other is the second half over Exmoor)
• 10 km loop around the Deer Park next to the Castle

Rest stops are provided roughly every 12.5 km with larger marquee stops every ~25 km. Catering for snacks, meals, energy drinks and dietary requirements is included. The event offers route signing with arrows, GPS maps via an app, timing scans at rest stops, and 24-hour control room monitoring. Medical cover includes doctors, paramedics, first aid, podiatrists and massage teams. Event facilities at basecamp include camping (Friday and Saturday options), showers, parking, shuttle buses and transfers to local stations.
