South West Coast 50 Ultra Challenge

The South West Coast 50 takes place along the initial Minehead section of the Somerset coastline and Exmoor. Based at a central camp near Dunster Castle, the event features a variety of terrain including coastal paths and moorland, with the main route involving approximately 1,600 metres of climb.

Participants can choose from several distance options:

  • 50 km loop starting and finishing at the Dunster basecamp.
  • 25 km loop based at the Dunster basecamp.
  • 25 km point-to-point from Dunster to Porlock (first half of the route).
  • 25 km point-to-point from Porlock to Dunster (second half of the route).
  • 10 km loop through the Deer Park adjacent to the castle.

The event is open to walkers, joggers, and runners. Specialized categories are available, including the Ultra March for walkers aiming for a sub-12-hour finish on the 50 km course, and Ultra Trailblazerz for competitive runners.

Support includes marquee rest stops every 12.5 km providing free food and drinks, as well as access to medical teams, podiatrists, and massage services. The route is fully signed with pink arrows, and participants are monitored via a timing system and a dedicated GPS tracking app. The Dunster basecamp offers festival-style hospitality with weekend camping packages, parking, and shuttle bus transfers to local train stations.
