The South West Coast 50 Ultra Challenge takes place on Saturday 25 July 2026 with a basecamp at Dunster. The main route is a 50 km loop that uses the Minehead section of the South West Coast Path and then crosses Exmoor. The full 50 km route is described as having about 1600 m of climb. The event includes covered rest stops roughly every 12.5 km, marquee facilities at major stops, medical and massage teams, a fully signed route with GPS tracking via an event app, and onsite camping and hospitality at the Dunster basecamp.
Distances and logistics
- 50 km loop, Dunster to Dunster, ~1600 m climb
- 25 km loop, ~600 m climb (option to finish at Porlock or return to basecamp)
- 10 km loop, around the Deer Park next to Dunster Castle
Additional options include an Ultra March category for walkers, a Trailblazerz category for faster runners, and a Solo Challenger start option. Catering is provided with snacks and drinks every ~12.5 km and meals every ~25 km; dietary requirements are catered for. Medical cover includes doctors, paramedics, first aid, podiatrists, massage, and mobile emergency teams linked to a 24 hour control room. Shuttle transfers and parking are available, and finishers receive a medal, T-shirt, and a glass of fizz. Camping packages are available on Friday and Saturday.
