South West Coast 50 Ultra Challenge
The South West Coast 50 Ultra Challenge takes place on Saturday 24 July 2027 and uses the South West Coast Path and Exmoor with a basecamp at Dunster near Dunster Castle. The main route is a 50 km loop that includes the first Minehead section of the Coastal Path and about 1600 metres of climb. The event offers additional distance options and formats for individuals and teams.
Distances offered:
- 50 km loop over Exmoor with 1600 metres of climb
- 25 km option on the same terrain
- 10 km family friendly route
- 100 km two-day Daylight option referenced in campsite arrangements
The route is fully signed with hundreds of pink arrows and glow-sticks for night sections, and GPS tracking is available through an event app. Rest stops are spaced at roughly every 12.5 km with major stops about every 25 km; marquee cover, medical and welfare tents, catering, seating and changing areas are provided. Catering includes snacks every 12.5 km, meals every 25 km, energy drinks and options for dietary requirements and lighter runner choices.
Onsite services include medics, paramedics, podiatrists and massage teams plus a 24 hour control room and mobile emergency medical teams. Camping packages, showers, shuttle buses, transfers and parking are available. Finishers receive a medal, T-shirt, a glass of fizz and a post-event meal.
