South West Coast 50 Ultra Challenge

The South West Coast 50 is an Ultra Challenge event held on Saturday 25 July 2026 and Saturday 24 July 2027 on the South West Coast Path and across Exmoor. The event uses a Dunster basecamp close to Dunster Castle and offers camping, a bar, parking and shuttle transfers.

Distances offered include:

  • 50 km loop through the South West Coast Path and Exmoor with ~1600 m climb
  • 25 km loop option with ~600 m climb
  • 10 km loop around the Deer Park next to the castle

The 50 km route is a loop that returns to Dunster basecamp and passes coastal and moorland terrain with notable ascent. Rest stops are located roughly every 12.5 km with larger marquee stops about every 25 km. Rest stops provide catering, seating, changing rooms, medical and welfare tents, and massage services. The route is fully signed with pink arrows and has GPS tracking via the event App. The organiser operates a timing system that scans participants at rest stops and monitors progress from a control room.

Entry categories include walking options such as Ultra March, a Trailblazerz category for faster runners, and a Solo Challenger start option. Event services include camping packages with showers, shuttle buses to local stations, transfers, and a finisher pack with a medal, T shirt, and a glass of fizz.
