The main trail network uses ranch trails with rugged rocky sections and some dirt and grass ATV tracks. The event features a loop of about 10.7 miles and the course includes a notable climb of roughly 780 feet per loop. The 50K course records over 2850 feet of elevation gain.
Required gear varies by distance. The 17K, 35K, and 50K distances require a minimum 32 ounce carrying system and a headlamp. The 5K recommends bringing a water bottle for expected finishes longer than one hour. Ruck entries have weight requirements based on participant body weight.
Aid stations are located along the loop and offer hot and cold foods, snacks, water, electrolytes, pickle juice, and ice. Drop bag transportation to aid stations is not provided; drop bags may be left at the start and finish area. A $10 ranch parking fee is collected in cash on arrival. Camping is available near the start and finish and additional lodging options are listed by distance from the ranch. Finishers receive a South Texas Ultra medal and event t-shirt and there are awards for top finishers in each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
