South Texas Ultra - Leakey, TX
The South Texas Ultra is a trail running event held on the H.W. Lewis Ranch in the Texas Hill Country. The event offers multiple distances:
- 50K
- 35K
- 17K
- 17K RUCK
- 5K
The running courses use a looped trail system. The main loop is reported as about 10.3 miles, and the 50K distance accumulates over 2,300 feet of elevation gain. Trails are rugged and rocky with sections of dirt and grass ATV tracks. The start and finish are located on the west side of the ranch.
Race format and services include repeated loops for the longer distances and a modified route for the 5K. The event is cupless; water refill stations are available for participants to refill their own bottles or cups. A 14-hour overall cutoff applies.
Ruck entrants follow specified weight requirements: participants over 150 pounds carry 30 pounds, those under 150 pounds carry 20 pounds; a ruck sack or vest is allowed. The ranch charges a $10 per participant parking fee, collected in cash on entry.
Finisher items and awards listed for the event include a race T-shirt, collectible finisher medals, a ruck patch, 50K inscription on medals, first-place awards for males and females at all distances, and a DFL award for the 50K. Aid station food and hydration, course marking and support, and on-course photography are provided. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
