Shetland Toe To Tip Ultramarathon

This is a multi-day on-foot expedition across the Shetland Islands over six days and five nights. The route covers a total distance of about 160 km with total elevation gain of 3556 m. The event uses a bespoke route along coastal trails, beaches, cliff-top paths and some quiet roads, and includes at least one ferry link between islands.

The itinerary includes three run/hike days that add the majority of the distance, a travel day with time in Lerwick, and overnight ferry crossings. Meals and accommodation are provided on a shared basis in hotels, hostels and twin ferry cabins. Pit Stop lunches, evening meals and breakfasts are noted in the itinerary and dietary requirements are catered for.

Event support includes expedition leaders, an outdoor event crew, British medical and welfare staff, and local safety personnel. The event is audited to the BS8848 expedition safety standard. One group transfer from Aberdeen train station is included pre and post event. Equipment expectations include an ultrarunning rucksack or hiking backpack, waterproof outer layers, minimum 2 litre hydration, satellite tracker provided at briefing, basic first aid items and a bivvi bag.
