Course, eligibility and rules
The course covers 5 5/8 miles over hilly terrain. It starts at Malta Boat Club on Kelly Drive, continues outbound on Kelly to Brewery Hill, crosses the Girard Avenue bridge, and proceeds on Lansdowne Avenue. Just past Sweetbriar cutoff the route turns onto a grassy cross-country segment that passes Meade Monument, follows a cyclone fence to the Pagoda entrance gate, crosses through the service entrance to Belmont Plateau, goes up to Belmont Mansion, and returns via Brewery Hill and Kelly Drive to Malta.
Members of Schuylkill Navy clubs and listed affiliates are eligible to compete; affiliates include Whitemarsh Boat Club, Sedgeley Club, Philadelphia Adaptive Rowing, Conshohocken Rowing Center, and Philadelphia City Rowing. Friends and family may run as guests; first guest male and female receive separate prizes but do not count in team scoring. Classifications include Juniors, Masters (40 years and over), Open, Guests, and Novice. Team points are scored by the first five finishers for men's teams and the first three finishers for women's teams. Wrong or borrowed numbers result in disqualification and a 25-point penalty to the runner’s team. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
