Scarecrow Walk at the USU Botanical Center
The Scarecrow Walk is a multi-day autumn event at the USU Botanical Center in Kaysville that displays community-created scarecrows along scenic paths in the Varga Arboretum and demonstration gardens. The display runs for nine days and is free to the public. Visitors can view scarecrows placed along mixed dirt and paved paths that are described as stroller and wheelchair friendly. Leashed pets are welcome; visitors are asked to remove any pet waste.
The program includes a 5K run organized in partnership with the Farmington Rotary Club. This off road 5K course passes through several gardens, circles a pond, and includes awards for top finishers and a costume contest for participants who dress as scarecrows. A separate shorter walk route of approximately three quarters of a mile follows the scarecrow displays.
Scarecrow builders from individuals, families, organizations, and businesses are invited to enter displays; wooden scarecrow bases and stakes are provided. Builder registration fees are listed as $35 per individual or $50 per scene of three. Builder application and pick up dates are set in advance for the season. Visitors can vote for a favorite scarecrow using posted numbers and QR codes; a prize is awarded for the most popular scarecrow.
Event features noted by the organizer include food trucks, live music, a kids area, and community sponsorships. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
