Sandlot Marathon
The Sandlot Marathon is a baseball-themed running event held at the Dave Anderson Athletic Complex (DAAC) in Elk River, Minnesota. The event is organized by D.U.R.T. and is part of the Upper Midwest Trail Runners (UMTR) series. The race takes place on a course consisting of repeated loops around the bases of a ball field.
The event offers two main distances:
- Full Marathon involving 384.55 loops around the bases.
- Minor League Half Marathon involving 192.25 loops around the bases.
The course is clearly marked with orange cones, and runners are required to keep the pitcher’s mound on their left while rounding the bases. Runners must stay within the base paths except when passing. An aid station is located near the on-deck circle along the first base line, providing standard supplies and refreshments. Participants are permitted to bring drop bags to the event.
The marathon has a 6 hour cut-off time. There are no qualification standards required for registration. While the race is not an official qualifier for the Boston Marathon, Western States, or UTMB, it serves as a community-focused event for runners. The top overall finisher receives a baseball card featuring Harold Baines, while all other participants receive a unique finisher award. Baseball-themed attire is encouraged for all participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
