San Diego 200 : Escondido, California
The San Diego 200 is a 200-mile endurance event based in Escondido that circumnavigates San Diego County. The route crosses a wide range of terrain, including coastal sections, urban corridors, inland trails, mountains, and desert landscapes. The event takes place over multiple days in late October.
Participants have 82 hours to complete the full distance. The race emphasizes self-reliance and logistical planning; runners are responsible for their own crew and decision-making throughout the course. All runners are required to have a crew, and crews may meet runners anywhere it is safe to do so. The first 100 miles travel through populated areas where self-support at stores and gas stations is possible; the second 100 miles become more rugged with limited options for water and supplies, making crew support critical in the later stages.
This edition revives the original San Diego 200 and was brought back by the last two finishers of the original event, who completed the full course together. Entry is limited to 24 runners and previous completion of a 200 mile race is highly recommended, though other exceptional accomplishments will be considered. Early entry is priced at $750 plus fees and taxes; the fee increases to $950 plus fees and taxes on April 1 if slots remain. All event profits will be donated to a Native American charity.
Registration closes on October 2 and applicants may be placed on a wait-list. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
