Salt Settlers Six Hour Race

Budleigh Salterton, United Kingdom • 3 Oct 2026

Event Overview

The Salt Settlers Six Hour Race is a timed endurance event held in the Lower Otter valley. Participants aim to complete as many laps as possible within a 6 hour time limit. The course consists of a 4.4 km loop that is primarily flat, with approximately 12 m of elevation gain per lap. The event is open to both runners and walkers, who may participate solo or as part of a pairs relay team.

Progress is tracked by the number of completed loops, providing participants with the opportunity to reach specific milestone distances:

  • 5 loops for a half marathon
  • 10 loops for a marathon

Course Details and Facilities

The race route traverses an area influenced by the Lower Otter Flood Restoration work. Due to the proximity to the coast and local waterways, certain sections of the course may be affected by high spring tides. The event is scheduled between high tides to ensure the route remains accessible.

The event base is located at the Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club. Facilities at this location include a cafe, a bar, and hot showers for participants. Runners and walkers have access to an aid station after every completed lap. All participants receive a memento to mark their involvement in the race. The name of the event references the historical salt panning traditions of the early settlers in Budleigh Salterton. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
