Salt Settlers Six Hour Race

The Salt Settlers Six Hour Race is a timed six hour event held around the Lower Otter valley near Budleigh Salterton. Participants complete as many 4.4 km loops as they can within the time limit on a predominantly flat circuit with about 12 m of climb per loop.

The course is fully marked and offers access to an aid station after every loop. The event base at Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club provides an indoor headquarters with toilets and hot showers, plus a cafe and bar. First aid cover is provided. All participants receive a solid oak coaster as a memento and there are prizes for first male and first female finishers.

Parts of the route can be affected by high spring tides and sections may be underwater at peak tides; the event is positioned to avoid the highest tides, but late returns from a final loop could encounter salt water.

The race accepts runners and walkers and offers solo entries and pairs relay options. Food and drink are available for purchase at the event base. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

  • Half marathon: five 4.4 km loops
  • Marathon: ten 4.4 km loops
  • Beyond marathon: as many loops as completed within six hours
