Salt Settlers Six Hour Race

The Salt Settlers Six Hour Race is a timed six hour event on a looped route through the Lower Otter valley. It takes place on Saturday 3 October 2026 and uses a 4.4 km circuit that returns to a central event base at Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club.

The loop is largely flat with about 12 m of ascent per circuit. Competitors complete as many laps as they can within the six hour window. Distances linked to lap counts include:

  • 4.4 km loop
  • 5 laps equals a half marathon distance
  • 10 laps equals a marathon distance

The event is open to runners and walkers and offers both solo and pairs relay options. An aid station is available after every loop. The event base provides a cafe, a bar and hot showers. All participants receive a special memento.

The course runs through an area affected by tidal and floodplain conditions. On high spring tides parts of the course can be underwater; the event is positioned between high tides, so returning late from a final lap may mean encountering saltwater on the route.

Registration and entry details published for the event include opening and closing dates and tiered entry fees for solo and pair entries. Practical information and results from previous years are recorded by the organiser. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
