Run the River Ultra Challenge and Relay
The Run the River Ultra Challenge and Relay is a looped trail event held at Petal River Park in Petal, Mississippi. The course follows a loop of approximately 2.8 miles that traverses various landscapes, including wide meadow lanes and single-track paths under a hardwood canopy. Participants will see riverfront views, lagoons, wetlands, palmetto fields, and historic train trestles.
The event is designed with a tailgate-style atmosphere where participants and supporters can set up personal rest zones. While there are no aid stations located on the course itself due to the short loop length, refreshments are provided at the start and finish area. Participants are encouraged to bring their own hydration and gear suitable for trail conditions, which include natural features such as roots and uneven terrain.
Available categories include:
- 6 Hour Solo: Individuals complete as many loops as possible within the time limit.
- 6-hour relay: Teams of 2 to 4 members rotate one runner at a time.
- Community Walk: A shorter course option for those who prefer a non-competitive walking experience.
Parking and gear drop-off zones are available on the morning of the event. While overnight camping is permitted on-site, no security is provided for the camping area. Timing is conducted using bibs for individual runners and a baton exchange system for relay teams. Results are determined by the total number of completed laps within the six-hour window.
