Run the River Ultra Challenge

Petal, United States • 1 Nov 2025

Event overview

Run the River Ultra Challenge and Relay takes place on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Petal River Park in Petal, Mississippi. The event offers three formats: a 6-hour solo ultra, a 6-hour relay (teams of 2 to 4), and a new Community Walk on a shorter loop. The event is hosted by the City of Petal Parks & Recreation. Individual divisions are Male and Female; team divisions are Male, Female, and Co-ed.

Course, support and logistics

The course is a roughly 2.5-mile loop that combines wide meadow lanes and single-track under a hardwood canopy. The loop passes riverfront areas, lagoons, wetlands, palmetto fields, and historic train trestles. Natural trail features include roots and uneven terrain; participants are advised to bring appropriate trail gear and hydration.

There is no on-course aid station due to the short loop. Cold refreshments are available at the finish/loop start and teams are encouraged to stock fuel at their personal tailgate site. Relay batons must be exchanged only in the exchange zone and only laps completed before the event cut-off count. Timing is managed by Diva Timing; individuals wear bibs and teams use a baton system, with final standings based on completed laps and ties broken by total time. Parking and overnight camping are allowed on site, with tailgate spots provided on a first-come basis. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
