Run the Red Desert

Run the Red Desert is a trail race held in the Northern Red Desert of Wyoming on Saturday, September 26, 2026. The event is dedicated to celebrating and conserving the Red Desert and to raising awareness about threats to the area’s ecosystem. Several Wyoming conservation groups organize the race to bring runners and local stakeholders together to experience the landscape.

The course begins at the Whitehorse Creek Overlook and finishes at the historic South Pass City. The route passes through a variety of desert landforms, including buttes, canyons, badlands, and long stretches of open country. The event is scheduled on Wyoming Public Lands Day, observed on the fourth Saturday in September, to emphasize the importance of public lands in the state.
