Run the Red Desert

South Pass City, United States • 27 Sep 2025

Run the Red Desert, held near South Pass City, Wyoming, offers two trail ultramarathon distances: 50K and 30K. The race begins and ends at the South Pass City Historic Site and threads the northern Red Desert with expansive views of Continental Peak and Oregon Buttes. Redesigned since 2019, the loop courses provide a remote wilderness experience through canyon rims, granite domes, and historic mining sites, finishing back in South Pass City. The event, organized by the Lander Running Club in partnership with the Wyoming Wilderness Association, emphasizes conservation of Wyoming’s vast desert landscape, wildlife corridors, and one of the region’s notable ungulate migration routes, and a sense of reverence for Wyoming's heritage.
