Courses and navigation

The event uses trails and beaches within the Promontory. The course is unmarked and requires navigation by map or app. Key route details:

  • The 6 km is an out-and-back along Norman Bay beach and the headland.
  • The 21 km follows the coast then turns inland to Telegraph Track Junction and returns.
  • The 42 km follows the 21 km route but includes a climb of Mt Oberon.
  • The 50 km is a lighthouse return route via Waterloo Bay and the southern tip of the promontory.
  • The 75 km follows the 50 km route and includes a climb of Mt Oberon.

Course maps, GPX and CRS files and PDFs are provided by the organisers. The 2025 maps were updated because the Tidal River bridge was out of action; organisers say they will keep maps updated for 2026.

Logistics

Organisers state that the 50 km and 75 km distances require experience for safety. Mandatory gear is required and incomplete gear will result in no race start. Accommodation inside the Prom is limited and a waitlist is available; additional accommodation options exist outside the park. Trailsplus donates $1 per participant to Canteen; in 2025 there were 111 competitors and $136 was donated. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
