Run for the Elk Race Festival

The Run for the Elk Race Festival takes place in Emporium, Pennsylvania, a location known as the Elk Capital of the state. The event utilizes the West Creek Industrial Trail, with the start and finish area located at East 3rd and Chestnut Streets. The festival includes several road racing distances and is held rain or shine.

Participants can choose from the following event distances:

  • Full Marathon (a certified Boston Marathon Qualifier)
  • Half Marathon
  • 10K Run/Walk
  • 5K Run/Walk
  • Combo 5K & 10K (participation in both events)

The Full Marathon consists of two loops of the course, while the 5K and 10K are out-and-back routes. The marathon is a certified course (PA22017NP). A time limit of four hours is in place for the Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K. For the Full Marathon, an early start option is available for participants maintaining a pace of 15 minutes per mile or slower, providing a total completion time of at least six and a half hours.

Registered participants receive a t-shirt, a finisher medal, and running socks. Those completing the Half Marathon, Full Marathon, or the Combo Platter for the first time receive a commemorative plaque. Amenities at the finish line include pizza and salad, live results via text or email, and digital finish line photos. Awards are provided for the top male, female, and non-binary finishers overall and within ten-year age groups.
