Rescue Run: Race for Marine Mammals
The Rescue Run is the primary annual fundraising event for the Seacoast Science Center Marine Mammal Rescue program. Located within Odiorne Point State Park, the event supports wildlife conservation and educational outreach through a series of running activities and community action.
The event features a chip-timed 5K trail race that traverses a variety of terrains. Participants run through forested areas, along the rocky Atlantic shore, across sandy beaches, and past historic military fortifications. The course offers views of the Gulf of Maine and Little Harbor. Due to the nature of the terrain, the 5K route is not suitable for strollers, and children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Several distances and activities are available:
- 5K Trail Run
- 300 yard dash (Kids Fun Run for ages 1-7)
- Half-mile run (Kids Fun Run for ages 8-12)
The Kids Fun Run ensures that every participating child receives a prize. For the 5K race, prizes are awarded to the fastest overall male and female runners, as well as top finishers across different age groups. The first 150 registrants receive a moisture-wicking performance short-sleeve shirt. Following the athletic events, participants can join a beach cleanup hosted by the Blue Ocean Society within the state park. Please note that pets are not permitted in the park.
