Redeye 50 km : Prince William Forest Park
The Redeye 50 km is scheduled for January 1, 2027 and is based at the Pine Grove Picnic Area in Prince William Forest Park. The course totals 31.7 miles and is run as three loops: a longer first loop and two shorter repeats.
The course layout is three repeats of a roughly 10 mile loop. The first loop includes a prologue of about 2.5 miles on the Birch Bluff Trail, consisting of approximately 0.5 miles of pavement, about 1.5 miles of trail to the swinging bridge over Quantico Creek, a 9 mile counter-clockwise main loop, and about 0.45 miles on the Laurel Trail back to Pine Grove, making that leg 11.9 miles. Loops two and three each measure about 9.9 miles. Terrain is primarily groomed forest trails with two sections of rolling gravel roads of about one to three miles each.
Course markings use ribbons. Double ribbons indicate the side of a forthcoming turn and single confidence ribbons confirm the line. Markings may be removed by volunteer sweeps during the third loop, so runners should learn the course on the first two loops and consider carrying a map or GPX file.
An unmanned aid station is available at the start and finish area and is accessed at the end of each loop. Participants traditionally contribute food to the aid spread. Restrooms are located near the main parking area, the visitor center, and at the Turkey Run Education Center. Parking can be limited and park entrance fees must be paid by card or with an appropriate pass. Check in with the race director or a volunteer before the run and again after each loop. Medical care is not provided on course and runners are responsible for their own safety. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
