Red Lodge Randonnee

Event overview

The Red Lodge Randonnee Races are a ski mountaineering (skimo) event held February 27-28 at Red Lodge Mountain, 305 Ski Run Road, Red Lodge, MT. The event consists of uphill and backcountry-style racing using alpine touring, telemark, or splitboard equipment. Packet pick up is on February 27 at Red Lodge Mountain.

Race formats and logistics

• Vertical - a night ascent to the top of Lazy M; only the ascent is timed.
• Short - an introductory skimo course with skinning ascents, boot-packing sections, and descents; the entire course is timed.
• Long - a full ski area route with about 4,500 ft of elevation gain; the entire course is timed.

Participants must use touring equipment (alpine, tele, or splitboard). Each course has strictly enforced cut off times. Entry pricing starts at $25 for the Vertical and at $50 for the Short and Long courses. Price for the Short and Long includes a non-transferrable lift ticket. All racers receive a registration gift; food and beverage items and prizes are provided by the organizers. The race is part of the 2026 Big Sky Skimo Cup and participants are eligible for Cup standings. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
