Off-Road Racing at Red Lodge Mountain

The Nitty Gritty Off Road Race takes place at the Red Lodge Mountain Resort in Montana. This event features a course designed with significant elevation gain, consisting of dirt roads, single track trails, and sections of bushwhacking. The route is organized as a continuous loop, ensuring participants do not repeat sections of the trail.

The race is structured around a 4.31 mile lap. Each lap includes approximately 1,150 feet of climbing. There are no aid stations located along the course itself; however, the loop passes the start line where participants can access water, snacks, and restrooms. Runners are responsible for carrying any necessary supplies between these points. The course is marked with pink and green flagging, along with signs at junctions.

Participants can choose from several event formats:

• Solo Marathon
• Solo Half Marathon
• Hot Lap
• Marathon Relay (teams of 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 people)

Safety requirements include the mandatory carriage of bear spray for every participant, which is available to borrow if needed. Medics are stationed at the main base area, though there are no monitors stationed along the course. Dogs are permitted to join runners on or off leash.
