Rasus y Bannau is a set of three long-distance mountain trail races starting and finishing in Brecon, around the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park. Distances and ascent are:
- 100 km 65 miles / 104 km, +5,100 m ascent
- 75 km 46.5 miles / 75.5 km, +3,500 m ascent
- Marathon 26.5 miles / 43 km, +2,000 m ascent
The event base is Theatr Brycheiniog, Canal Wharf, Brecon, Powys LD3 7EW. Car parking is available in nearby pay and display car parks. Minimum age to enter is 18.
Course, facilities and requirements
All routes start in Brecon town centre and climb the north ridge of Cribyn, then follow ridgelines through Fan y Big and Carn Pica. The marathon route turns toward Blaen y Glyn, Torpantau, Corn Du and Pen y Fan before returning to Brecon. The ultra routes descend to Talybont Reservoir, climb Tor y Foel, pass Craig y Fan Ddu, traverse Fan Fawr and Fan Llia, then split with the 75 km heading toward Craig Cerrig Gleisiad and the 100 km continuing into the Black Mountain to Fan Brycheiniog before rejoining the 75 km line.
Navigation is marked at major junctions and runners must follow the published GPS trace. Checkpoints: 9 for the 100 km, 6 for the 75 km, and 4 for the marathon. Checkpoints provide water, energy drink and a range of food. A drop bag service is available at approximately 50 km for ultra entries. There is a compulsory kit list and participants must be able to navigate and care for themselves in mountain conditions.
