Rasus y Bannau : event overview

Rasus y Bannau is a series of long distance mountain races held from 2 to 3 May 2026 around the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park. All routes start and finish in Brecon town centre at the Theatre and follow a circular course around the park. The event is organised by Run Walk Crawl. Entries open 23 May 2025 and close 26 April 2026. The minimum age for entry is 18.

Distances and route

  • 100 km - +5100 m ascent
  • 75 km Ultra Trail - +3500 m ascent
  • Marathon - +2000 m ascent

Routes ascend the North ridge of Cribyn and pass summits and ridgelines including Fan Y Big, Carn Pica, Fan Fawr, Fan Llia and Pen Y Fan. The marathon route diverges earlier and returns to Brecon via Corn Du and Pen Y Fan. Ultra routes include sections on the Beacons Way, Fan Brycheiniog (Black Mountain) and passages above the Graig Cerrig Gleisiad nature reserve. Several checkpoint locations are noted along the course, including CP3, CP4 and later checkpoints for the ultra distances.

Race services and provisions

Entry fees include a finishers medal and a GPS file of the route. The event provides route marking at junctions, checkpoints with refreshments, emergency first aid cover, mountain safety teams, GPS tracking and timing, and one drop bag point for the ultra races at 50 km.
