Event Overview

Rasus y Bannau (The Beacon Races) are three long-distance mountain running events. They follow a circular route around the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, starting and finishing in Brecon.

Race Distances

Participants can choose from three distances:

  • 100 km with 5,100 meters of ascent.
  • 75 km Ultra Trail with 3,500 meters of ascent.
  • Marathon (43 km) with 2,000 meters of ascent.

The Route

All routes begin at the Theatre in Brecon town centre. The initial climb ascends the north ridge of Cribyn. Runners then head east before the routes diverge at various points. The course includes multiple summits such as Fan Y Big, Tor y Foil, Pen y Fan, Fan Fawr, and Fan Llia. The 100 km route extends further west to the Black Mountain (Carmarthen Fan). The final leg for all distances climbs Pen y Fan before descending to Brecon.

Event Details

The 100 km and 75 km ultra races have a 24-hour time limit. The marathon has a 15-hour time limit.

The entry fee includes a finisher's medal, emergency first aid cover, route marking, a GPS file, GPS tracking and timing, checkpoints with refreshments, and mountain safety teams. Ultra race entrants are allowed one drop bag at the 50 km point.
