Rasus y Bannau

Rasus y Bannau is a set of three long distance mountain trail races that start and finish in Brecon and follow a circular route around the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park. The event is organised by Run Walk Crawl and requires entrants to be 18 or older.

Distances and elevation:

  • 100 km with +5100 m ascent
  • 75 km Ultra Trail with +3500 m ascent
  • Marathon (about 43 km) with +2000 m ascent

All routes begin at the Theatre in Brecon town centre and include a direct ascent up the North ridge of Cribyn. Course highlights include Fan Y Big, Carn Pica, Torpantu, Taf Fechan Forest, the ridge lines of Cefn Cul and Craig Gwaun Taf, and ascents of Fan Fawr, Fan Llia and Pen Y Fan. The 100 km route continues west onto the Black Mountain and Fan Brycheiniog before rejoining the 75 km line for the final approach to Pen Y Fan and the return descent to Brecon.

Entry periods run from 23 May 2025 until 26 April 2026. Entry fees vary by distance and include a finishers medal, emergency first aid cover, route marking at junctions, an accurate GPS file, one drop bag for ultra races at 50 km, GPS tracking and timing, checkpoints with refreshments, mountain safety teams and free race photography. Experience a scenic 35 mile ultra marathon from Merthyr Tydfil to Barry Island. Following the National Cycle Route 8 to the coast, this four yearly event offers a unique journey through the landscapes of South Wales.
