Ras Rhobell Fawr Fell Race

Ras Rhobell Fawr Fell Race

Ras Rhobell Fawr is a 6 mile fell race with approximately 1900 feet of ascent. The course is out and back, climbing through fields and tracks before following a wall to the summit. The race is listed as Race Grade AM & LK/PM/NS.

The event starts and finishes at Llanfachreth village hall. Registration was held in a nearby derelict old school while the village hall was being renovated, with organisers grateful to local authorities for use of the building. A junior race uses the same course and starts shortly after the senior race; junior entry is two pounds on the day only.

Runners are required to carry full WFRA kit as a minimum and to wear fell shoes. Organisers noted that hard hats should have been on the minimum kit list in the past. Post race soup is provided.

The race opens the Meirionnydd Winter Race Series. A recent report recorded 57 runners registering in moist underfoot autumnal conditions. The organisers run the event with volunteer helpers, and the club highlights the importance of safety information and consulting the race map before racing. The steep green road section between lower fields and the mountain has been deteriorating and is affecting course records. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
