Trail Running at Bogue Chitto State Park
The Q50 Races Chupacabra is a night trail running event held at Bogue Chitto State Park in Franklinton, Louisiana. Participants navigate a scenic, non-technical dirt trail through the park after dark. The course features small hills and is designed as a loop system starting and finishing at the meeting room.
The event offers two distance options:
- 5 miles
- 10 miles
The 5 mile race consists of one loop, while the 10 mile race involves two loops. Because this is a night race, all runners are required to carry certain safety equipment, including a headlamp or flashlight with extra batteries and a whistle. Headphones, bicycles, baby strollers, and pacers are not permitted on the course.
This event follows a green policy to reduce environmental impact. It is a "Bring Your Own Bottle" race, meaning no paper cups are provided at aid stations. Runners must bring their own hydration containers, such as water bottles, hydration belts, or packs, which can be refilled with water and sports drinks provided by the organizers. Participants are expected to carry out all personal trash to preserve the cleanliness of the state park. Food for participants is provided after the run.
A park entrance fee is required for all attendees. Registration and packet pickup take place at the park meeting room prior to the start. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
