Prairie Nightmare Backyard Ultra
Prairie Nightmare Backyard Ultra takes place on August 15, 2026 at Echo Valley Provincial Park, Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan. The event uses a Backyard Ultra format where runners repeat a loop until only the final finisher remains. The loop is 6.706 km on gentle trails. Each lap must be completed within the allotted hour and a new lap begins afterward; the race ends when the last runner or runners either concede or fail to finish the required distance within the time limit.
Daydream Option
The Prairie Daydream option offers an introduction to Backyard-style events and trail running. Participants run the same 6.706 km loop and may begin their Daydream runs later in the day, with a latest allowed loop start in the afternoon. They may complete between one and five consecutive laps without pressure to continue beyond that. If a participant wishes to exceed five loops, they should inform the onsite race director; permission to continue depends on the stage of the race.
Runner logistics
Each runner has a designated area for gear and crew. Camping is available for the race weekend; attendees may set up on Friday night. There is a race day charge for trailers and for tent/car camping: CA$20 for trailers and CA$10 for tent or car camping, payable to the race director at check-in. The event is cupless; runners must bring refillable bottles or cups. Participants are expected to supply their own food and drink; park water is drinkable.
