Prairie Nightmare Backyard Ultra at Echo Valley Provincial Park
Prairie Nightmare Backyard Ultra is a Backyard Ultra event held at Echo Valley Provincial Park, Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan, Canada. The course is a 6.706 km loop on gentle trails. Runners must complete each lap within the hourly window and be at the start line to begin when the whistle sounds; failure to do so results in a DNF.
The event follows a Last Person Standing format: laps repeat hour after hour until the remaining runner or runners either concede or fail to finish the loop in the allotted time. One runner will be the final winner if they remain the last to complete a lap.
Daydream option The Prairie Daydream option introduces runners to Backyard-style racing and trail running. Participants may start later in the day up to the event's afternoon cutoff and may run from one up to five consecutive laps without pressure to continue. Requests to exceed five laps are handled on site by the race director and depend on the stage of the race.
Practical information Each runner has a designated area for gear and crew. Camping is available for the weekend with an on-site fee for trailers and for tent or car camping. The race is cupless so runners must bring refillable bottles or cups. Participants are expected to supply their own food and drink; park water is drinkable.
