Prairie Nightmare Backyard Ultra
Prairie Nightmare Backyard Ultra takes place at Echo Valley Provincial Park near Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan. The event uses the Backyard Ultra Last Person Standing format: runners complete identical loops hour after hour until only one finisher remains or others fail to complete a loop within the allowed time.
The loop is 6.706 km on gentle trails and must be completed within each hour. A new loop starts on the hour; runners must be at the start line and begin when the start whistle sounds or they will be recorded as DNF.
A Prairie Daydream option provides an introduction to backyard-style racing and trail running. Daydream entrants run the same 6.706 km loop and may start any hour up to 3pm, then complete between one and five consecutive loops without pressure to continue. If a runner wishes to go beyond five loops they must notify the on-site race director; continuation depends on the race stage.
Runners have a designated area for gear and crew. Camping is available for the race weekend. The event is cupless so participants should bring refillable bottles or cups and supply their own food and drink; park water is potable. There is a race-day fee for trailers and a smaller fee for tent or car camping. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
