Prairie Nightmare Backyard Ultra

The Prairie Nightmare Backyard Ultra takes place at Echo Valley Provincial Park in Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan. This event follows the traditional "Last Person Standing" format. Participants run a loop course of 6.706 km on gentle trails. Runners must complete the loop within one hour, as a new lap begins every hour on the hour. The competition continues until only one runner remains who can complete a final lap within the time limit. Failure to be at the start line when the whistle blows results in an automatic DNF.

For those looking for an introduction to trail running and the backyard style, the Prairie Daydream option is available. This category allows participants to run between one and five consecutive loops without the pressure of the elimination format. Participants may start at any hour up until 3:00 pm, provided other runners are still active on the course.

  • Prairie Nightmare (Last Person Standing)
  • Prairie Daydream (1 to 5 loops)

The event is self-sufficient and cupless. Runners are required to bring their own refillable bottles or cups and supply all their own food and drink for the duration of the race. While potable water is available within the park, participants must manage their own nutrition. Designated areas are provided for gear and crew. On-site camping is available starting Friday night, with separate fees for tents, cars, or trailers collected on race day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
