Potomac River Marathon & Half
The Potomac River Marathon and Half are road race events that start and finish at Fletcher's Cove, 4940 Canal Road NW, Washington DC, and run on the C&O Canal Towpath. The course is USATF certified (DC21001RT) and follows a flat, out and back route alongside the Potomac River and historic canal infrastructure.
The trail surface is mostly unpaved crushed stone and packed dirt with short paved sections at some locks and bridges. The route is tree lined and shaded in places, runs past historic locks and gatehouses, and is shared with other park users and bicyclists.

- 13.1 miles Half marathon
There are four aid stations positioned along the course; each aid station provides water and Gatorade and has portable toilets. Marathon runners pass the aid stations approximately fifteen times; half marathon runners pass them approximately eight times. First aid, course marshals, and bicycle support are available on the course.
Participants receive a technical shirt and finishers receive medals; the event also awards cash prizes to top overall finishers in both the marathon and half marathon. Packet pickup is offered in the days before the race and on site. Post-race food and entertainment are provided.
