Philmont Trail Race Overview
The Philmont Trail Race takes place at the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. This event utilizes the 140,000 acre high adventure property located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of the southern Rockies. Proceeds from the event support the mission of the Philmont Scout Ranch and Scouting America.
Four distinct distances are offered for participants:
- 50 Miles: Traversing the south country from Rayado to the summit of Mt. Phillips and down Tooth Ridge.
- 26.2 Miles: A marathon distance passing through Aguila Camp, Bear Caves, Crater Lake, and Miners Park.
- 18 Miles: Known as the Heavy Half, this route highlights Crater Lake and the Tooth of Time.
- 8 Miles: The Tooth Ridge Sprint follows the Stockade trail and descends through flowing switchbacks.
Specific qualification requirements and equipment mandates apply depending on the chosen distance. Competitors in the 50 Mile event must provide proof of completing a trail marathon or equivalent within the last two years.
