Peak to Creek - Cookson Hills Wildlife Management Area
Peak to Creek is a single continuous 33 mile loop held in Cookson Hills Wildlife Management Area, with a participant cap of 70 set by permit. The course follows dirt and gravel roads and four-wheel drive access roads, with roughly 4,500 feet of elevation change. Sections can be covered with thick leaves; there are multiple water crossings that vary from dry creek beds to knee deep depending on rainfall. Conditions may include snow and ice.
The course is marked with directional signs and confidence flags, but participants are responsible for knowing the route. Trekking poles are allowed. Most intersections have road signs and supervised aid stations that provide hydration, calories, and first aid kits; participants are expected to tend to their own feet and administer basic self-care. A porta potty is available at the start/finish area.
Drop bags are transported to aid stations at mile 12.3 and mile 20.3 and must be placed at the designated signs at the start/finish. Crew assistance is permitted only at the start/finish area and the 12.3 mile aid station; crew and spectators are asked not to drive on the course. There are no race day signups, no overnight camping in Cookson WMA, and there are no parking fees.
All participants, volunteers, crew, and spectators must carry a valid Oklahoma Hunting License, Oklahoma Fishing License, or Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Passport while on the grounds; children under 18 are exempt. Finishers within the event cutoff receive a themed finisher buckle (19 elk and 51 bear buckles available), top three overall finishers receive awards, and all participants receive an 80/20 cotton-poly hoodie. The event is not chip timed; finish times will be recorded by organizers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
