About the race
KROP is a looped trail event held at Welling Ridge Trails in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The course is a 4-mile single-track loop with rocks, roots, and technical sections, and about 417 feet of elevation gain and loss per loop. Every distance uses the same loop, so runners return to the start/finish area after each lap for crew access, personal aid, and race support.
Distances offered
- 4 miles one 4-mile loop.
- 8 miles two loops.
- 16 miles (25K) four loops.
- 32 miles (50K) eight loops.
- 40 miles (65K) ten loops.
The event includes a Ruck Relay team division. Teams of up to four people work as a single unit, exchange one bib as a baton in the start/finish area, and must have the active runner carry a 20 pound ruck or vest. The relay is scored by completed full loops during a ten hour team window.
Safety information notes the trail is technical and falling is a real risk; participants are expected to self rescue when possible and wait for assistance if they cannot move safely. A roaming medical professional will be on site. Aid station support is available throughout the event with breakfast items in the morning and burgers and hot dogs later in the day.
Finisher recognition includes medals for completing at least one loop, special belt buckles for the ultra distances, and sourdough loaves for the top three finishers in each distance. The Kaizen Rock challenge places large orange stones on course; returning a rock to the finish line earns a cash prize and is open to participants 18 years or older.
