Event Overview

The Pumpkin Holler Hunnerd takes place in the J.T. Nickel Preserve, located northeast of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. This 17,000-acre conservation area is the largest privately protected space in the Ozarks and is situated within the rolling Cookson Hills in Cherokee County. The event follows a route that passes through the Illinois River area and the community of Pumpkin Holler.

Course Geography

The route consists of gravel country roads with several climbs. The landscape features a mix of steep slopes, narrow valleys, and canyons. Participants move through a variety of ecosystems, including oak-hickory forests, pine woodlands, prairies, and shrub lands. During the event, the foliage typically displays fall colors such as yellow, red, and brown. The preserve also contains numerous spring-fed creeks and various tributaries that feed into the Illinois River.
