Event Overview
The Pumpkin Holler Hunnerd takes place in the J.T. Nickel Preserve, located northeast of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. This 17,000-acre conservation area is the largest privately protected space in the Ozarks and is situated within the rolling Cookson Hills in Cherokee County. The event follows a route that passes through the Illinois River area and the community of Pumpkin Holler.
Course Geography
The route consists of gravel country roads with several climbs. The landscape features a mix of steep slopes, narrow valleys, and canyons. Participants move through a variety of ecosystems, including oak-hickory forests, pine woodlands, prairies, and shrub lands. During the event, the foliage typically displays fall colors such as yellow, red, and brown. The preserve also contains numerous spring-fed creeks and various tributaries that feed into the Illinois River.

Participant Support and History
The race features aid stations staffed by volunteers who provide food and assistance along the course. The event utilizes finisher medals and belt buckles designed to reflect the Native American tradition and history of the Tahlequah region.
