Peak District Challenge 2026

Peak District Challenge 2026, organised by Wilderness Development, is a trail event near Hathersage S32 1DU on 18-19 September 2026. Participants may choose to run or trek on mapped routes of varying distances, with timed cutoffs and checkpoint support.

Distances available

  • 25 km (Copper) - circular route Hathersage to Baslow via Curbar and Frogatt edges.
  • 50 km (Bronze) - 12 hour cutoff, 1200 m total ascent, highest point 464 m.
  • 75 km (Silver) - 24 hour cutoff, approximately 2000 m total ascent.
  • 100 km (Gold) - 24 hour cutoff, approximately 3200 m ascent, requires an average near 4 kph.
  • 100 miles - 24 hour cutoff, approximately 5000 m ascent, requires an average near 7 kph.

Entry formats include self-navigating teams and guided walking groups. Self-navigating entries include a route guide booklet, a team GPS tracker, checkpoint drinks and snacks, and a finish hot meal and goody bag. Guided groups incur an additional fee and include a Mountain Leader qualified guide, provided safety equipment, and average group sizes of about 12.

All entries include bag care and full safety support. The event organiser, Wilderness Development, is a Peak District based provider and has run the original Peak District Challenge since 2013. Trail runs nearby

Trail ultra in Sherwood Forest offering 30 mile and 40 mile loops that pass Thoresby Estate, Creswell Crags and Welbeck Estate. The course is fully marked, has aid stations and provides finisher medals.

A trail race of 33 miles following much of the Chesterfield Round Walk across moorland, woodland, reservoirs and farmland. The course is largely unmarked and comes with GPX route notes, staffed checkpoints and medical cover.

Three circular challenge routes of 26.2, 23 and 18 miles around the Colne Valley near Marsden. Entries are by SIEntries with a 150 person limit and include checkpoints, refreshments and a finish meal.

A self-navigated trail event around Delph, Saddleworth covering about 19 miles with 3000 ft of ascent. The unmarked course visits five trig points, has three manned checkpoints, and requires full kit and a minimum age of 18.
