The Peak District Challenge : 18 and 19 September 2026

The Peak District Challenge is a walking or running event for individuals or teams, based in Hathersage (S32 1DU). The event takes place overnight on Friday and during Saturday, with all routes starting and finishing in Hathersage. Team entries are encouraged; solo and duo entrants are allowed if they can show suitable experience.

Routes, navigation and support

Route maps and GPX files are provided for self-navigating teams. A GPS tracker is supplied for every team on distances of 25 km and above. Led walking groups with qualified Mountain Leaders are offered on the Copper and Bronze challenges and the overnight section of the Silver route. Silver teams must self-navigate during daylight hours. Gold Ultra challengers must self-navigate throughout. External personal support such as private pacers or extra crews is not permitted; public facilities and cafes are acceptable.

Course details, services and rules

Ascent and time targets vary by distance: the 100-mile route has about 4,800 m ascent in a 24-hour target, the 100 km has about 3,200 m ascent in 24 hours, the 75 km has about 2,000 m ascent in 24 hours, the 50 km has about 1,200 m ascent and reaches 464 m, and the 25 km follows a circular route via Baslow and Curbar and Frogatt edges. Entry fees range from £61 to £99 and cover Mountain Leaders, checkpoints with food and drinks, drop-bags for longer distances, a stew supper on Saturday evening, a goody bag, and a modest prize pool. Trail runs nearby

A night score event at The Railway Inn in Marple on Tuesday 27th January. Choose a 40, 60 or 75 minute course, use MapRun or a paper backup, and note late entries are not guaranteed a map.

Timed lap based event on a flat 5.3 km riverside out and back near Hardy Farm in Manchester, with flexible distances from 5 km to ultra and a seven hour time limit. Medal free entry option and a charity donation per finisher.

Take on the Dovedale Big Daddy on 1 February 2026, an AL fell race in the Peak District covering 20.4 km with 1370 m ascent and nine steep climbs through the Manifold and Dovedale valleys. Entries close 29 January and are limited to 250.

Take on the Mickleden Straddle on 1 Feb 2026, a rugged 14.3 mile fell race across high moorland with navigation required and winter conditions possible. Pre entry and FRA kit checks mean this is a demanding winter race for fell runners.
