The Peak District Challenge 2026 is an outdoor running and trekking event organised by Wilderness Development. It takes place on 18-19 September 2026 in Hathersage (S32 1DU). Entrants can choose from multiple challenge distances and may either self-navigate or join a guided walking group led by a Mountain Leader. Routes, cutoffs and entry details
Available challenge distances include:
- 25 km (Copper Challenge) - circular route from Hathersage to Baslow via riverside paths and return via Curbar and Froggatt edges; 9 hour cutoff.
- 50 km (Bronze Challenge) - 1200 m total ascent, highest point 464 m, 12 hour cutoff.
- 75 km (Silver Challenge) - 2000 m ascent, 24 hour cutoff, follows routes between eight checkpoints.
- 100 km (Gold Ultra) - 3200 m ascent, 24 hour cutoff; target average pace noted as 4 kph.
- 100 miles (Ultra) - approximately 5000 m ascent, 24 hour cutoff; target average pace noted as almost 7 kph.
Self-navigating entry fees range from £61 to £99 depending on distance; joining a guided group adds approximately £29 and includes guide-led navigation, safety equipment, and an average group size of 12. Fundraising entrants: charities receive 100% of sponsorship with no deductions. Wilderness Development states it has run the original Peak District Challenge since 2013.
