Overview

The Path of the Flood Historic Races take place in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on May 23, 2026. The event commemorates the Flood of 1889 and is hosted by Heritage Johnstown in partnership with the Cambria County Conservation & Recreation Authority. Proceeds benefit the Cambria County Trails Friends of the Trails program. The event is part of the 2026 Cambria County Trails Series. Timing mats with chip timing are used for all distances. Registration is free for youth 17 years of age and under, supported by the 1889 Foundation. The organizers do not issue refunds; registration fees are used as donations if participants cannot attend.

The 14 Miler starts within the ruins of the South Fork Dam. The 14 Miler and 8 Miler pass through the Staple Bend Tunnel, noted as the first railroad tunnel in the United States. The course is a hybrid of road and rail-trail segments and follows parts of the South Fork Little Conemaugh River, the Coy-McCombie Link trail, the Trolley Line Extension, Plum Street, and the Hope Tunnel. The races finish at Peoples Natural Gas Park near the historic Stone Bridge. Registration and detailed race information are provided through the race website.
