Pajarito Mountain Run - Los Alamos, NM
The Pajarito Mountain Run is a grass-roots trail race held at Pajarito Mountain Ski Area in Los Alamos, New Mexico. The advertised distance is 10K, though the course is noted to be slightly short of 10 kilometers. The route starts and finishes near the lodge and ascends about 3.25 miles to the summit before descending on Aspen For Trouble singletrack back to the lodge. The course tops out at over 10,200 ft and includes approximately 1,350 ft of total ascent.
Course details include an opening mile of rolling singletrack on Lower Aspenola Trail, followed by roughly 2.25 miles of ascent on a service road to the summit aid station. The descent follows Aspen For Trouble singletrack with a short section on service road and a final short singletrack approach to the finish. The route will be marked with yellow flagging, arrows, and directional signage at junctions. There are no cutoffs on course and hikers are allowed.
Trail stewardship is part of the event; organizers perform trail maintenance before the race and sweep the course afterward to remove trash. A summit aid station is located roughly three miles into the route and will provide water and some sports nutrition gels; participants are asked to bring their own water vessel when possible.
