The route starts and finishes at George Town Boys and Girls Club and follows the Taff Trail before turning north alongside the River Taff toward the Beacons Reservoir. The course crosses the A470 and climbs to the summit of Pen y Fan (886 m), then descends Jacobs Ladder to the Roman Road and continues to Torpantau. From there it follows forestry tracks by Dolygaer and Pontsticill Reservoir, drops into the Taff Fechan Nature Reserve and returns along the Taff Trail to the club.

There are five checkpoints; four will offer water and food. Checkpoint 1: Cwm Cadlen Road crossing (6 miles). Checkpoint 2: Pont yr Daf car park (13 miles). Summit check-in/check-out at Pen y Fan. Checkpoint 3: Torpantau Train Station (19.5 miles). Checkpoint 4: Ffynnondwyn on the Taff Trail (26 miles). A 6-hour cutoff applies at checkpoint 3, which requires an average pace of about 19 minutes per mile to reach that point within the limit.
