The OTT Ultra Marathon is a 30 miles trail race in the Brecon Beacons, scheduled for Saturday 1 November 2025. The event is based in Merthyr Tydfil. Entry is limited to 200 runners and the race will be chip timed. The minimum age to enter is 18. Entry fees are listed at £60 for affiliated/UKA members and £62 for non-members.
Route and checkpoints
The course follows trails from Merthyr Tydfil onto the Taff Trail, then alongside the River Taff toward the Beacons Reservoir. The route crosses the A470 and climbs to the summit of Pen y Fan, listed at 886 meters, then descends Jacobs Ladder to the Roman Road and on to Torpantau. Runners continue on forestry tracks beside Dolygaer and Pontsticill Reservoir, return through Taff Fechan Nature Reserve and follow the river back toward the start/finish area. Total elevation gain is given as 3,750 ft (1,143 m). There are five checkpoints at approximately 6 miles, 13 miles, the Pen y Fan summit (check-in/out only), 19.5 miles and 26 miles; four of these checkpoints will provide water and food.
Logistics and safety
Compulsory kit includes a fully charged mobile phone, minimum 1 litre hydration, foil blanket or bivi bag, 400 kcal emergency rations, basic first aid, head torch or torch, whistle, waterproof jacket and trousers (taped seams), warm layer with hat and gloves, and a bag or rucksack. A cutoff is enforced at checkpoint 3 set at six hours from the race start, which requires an approximate pace of 20 minutes per mile or quicker. The race is cup-less at checkpoints.
