OTT Ultra Marathon : Brecon Beacons

The OTT Ultra Marathon is a 30 mile trail race through the Brecon Beacons on technical paths and mixed terrain. The event is scheduled for 7 November 2026 and begins in Georgetown, Merthyr Tydfil, with a limit of 200 entries. Entry fees are listed for affiliated runners and non affiliated runners.

The route leaves Georgetown and follows the Taff Trail before turning to trails alongside the River Taff toward the Beacons Reservoir. It crosses the A470 and climbs to the summit of Pen y Fan at 886 metres. From the summit a descent via Jacobs Ladder meets the Roman Road to Torpantau, then forestry tracks beside Dolygaer and Pontsticill Reservoir, returning through the Taff Fechan Nature Reserve to the finish in Georgetown. Total elevation gain is 3750 ft / 1143 m.

There are five checkpoints, four of which provide water and food; this is a cup less event so participants should bring a cup. Checkpoints are located at about 6 miles (Cwm Cadlen Road crossing), 13 miles (Pont yr Daf car park), the Pen y Fan summit as a check in/check out only, 19.5 miles (Torpantau Train Station), and 26 miles (Ffynnondwyn on the Taff Trail). The cut off at checkpoint 3 is six hours after the start, requiring an average pace of about 20 minutes per mile or quicker.

Compulsory kit includes a fully charged mobile phone, minimum 1 litre hydration, foil blanket or bivi bag, 400 Cal emergency rations, basic first aid, head torch or torch, whistle, waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, warm layer with hat and gloves, and a bag or rucksack. The route is presented for runners stepping up to a trail ultra as well as for experienced ultra runners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
