The Oak Mountain 50K is a trail running event taking place in Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama. The 2026 edition is the 25th annual race and is described as the second oldest 50K in Alabama. The event offers three race distances: a 50K, a 25K, and a 6 Miler.

Course Details

All courses start and finish at the Dogwood Pavilion. The races take place on trails within the 11,584-acre Oak Mountain State Park. The 50K course features forested hills and two climbs up Double Oak Mountain. Runners pass Peavine Falls, a naturally fed waterfall approximately 65 feet tall, and the park's highest point, Shackleford Point (1,260 ft.). The course consists of single-track trails with no repeating loops and has an elevation gain of approximately 3,600 feet. Separate course descriptions are provided for the 25K and 6 Miler distances.

Practical Information

A park entrance fee is required for vehicle entry. Packet pickup occurs on race morning at the Dogwood Pavilion. Parking and restrooms are available at the start/finish area. The event has specific time limits: 9 hours 30 minutes for the 50K, 9 hours for the 25K, and 5 hours for the 6 Miler. The race has never been canceled due to weather. Awards are given for the 50K and 25K distances for top overall, master, and grand master finishers. All finishers receive a medal. The event is part of larger "Grand Slam" and "Slam" series for runners completing multiple specific races.
