Zombie Backyard Ultra

Zombie Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra held in Pelham, AL at Oak Mountain State Park, staged from a looped trail that starts near 200 Terrace Drive. The course is a single loop of 4.167 miles (listed also as 4 miles 880 feet) with roughly 500 feet of elevation gain and loss per lap.

The format uses one-hour rounds. Each loop starts precisely one hour after the previous loop. Runners must be in the starting corral when the next hour begins to attempt another lap. A warning bell sounds at 3, 2, and 1 minutes before each start, and all competitors must start at the bell; late starts are not permitted.

Limited aid is available at the start/finish area. Competitors may set up a tent or canopy near the start/finish for supplies, but personal aid during a loop is not allowed. Except for restroom breaks, competitors must remain on course until they complete the current loop. No non-competitors, including eliminated runners, are allowed on the course. Artificial aids such as trekking poles are prohibited. Slower runners must allow faster runners to pass.

The event is capped at 100 entrants. The winner is the last individual to complete a loop; if no runner completes an extra loop beyond all others, there is no winner. All other participants receive results showing distance covered. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
