The North Texas Ultra is a multi-distance trail running event held on the Lost Creek Reservoir State Trailway at Fort Richardson State Park, North Park Unit (134 Trail Way Dr, Jacksboro, TX). The course is a 15.5 mile out and back loop on an open, wide trail surfaced with soft fine gravel. Elevation change is relatively modest with about 550 feet of gain and loss per 15.5 mile loop. Historic average temperatures for the event period are about 35 to 60 degrees.
Distances offered include:
- 5K
- 10K
- 25K
- 50K
- 52 mile
- 100K
- 25K ruck
Aid stations are positioned along the course; main aid is at the start/finish (mile 15.5), Mandy’s aid at mile 4.4/11.1, and a Quarry water station at mile 7.8. Aid station supplies include hot and cold food, snacks, water, electrolytes, ice and pickle juice. Road and crew access and drop bag options vary by station; drop bag transport to the Twin Lake aid station is available. The event is a no cup race; a personal water carrying system is required for all distances.
Mandatory gear requirements apply to the longest events: a headlamp and an emergency blanket for the 100K and 52 mile races. Ruck events specify weight rules based on runner weight. Some events use shuttle parking arrangements and nearby camping and lodging options exist at the state park and in Bridgeport. Course time cutoffs are published for participating distances. The event is part of the Texas Ultra Series and includes finisher medals, specific 100K buckles, and placement awards that can qualify top finishers for series championship entry.
