NCTRaces: Bird Sanctuary
NCTRaces: Bird Sanctuary is a trail running event held on April 18, 2026, to raise a charitable donation for the local chapter of the North Country Trail Association. The organizing chapter, Brule-St. Croix, helps build, improve, and maintain the North Country Trail in the area.
The event takes place in the Douglas County Wildlife Area known locally as The Bird Sanctuary. The site is managed as a brush prairie habitat and includes miles of open fields, wildflowers, ponds, and wide views. The North Country Trail crosses the Bird Sanctuary from the northeast corner to the southwest corner and is often one of the first local trail sections clear of snow in spring.
Distances offered:
- 10k
- 20k
Each distance has a participant limit of 75 runners. Registration is available through UltraSignup and in person if spots remain. Organizers note that announcements will be made on social media if participant limits are approaching and that registration will close when limits are reached.
A few RV sites are available at the headquarters and start/finish area; requests and logistical details are handled by the race director. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
