Event Overview

The 2026 Stinson Beach/Muir Woods Marathon, Half Marathon, and 7 Mile is the 36th annual edition of this trail run. It starts at the Stinson Beach Parking Lot in California. The event is limited to 300 participants.

Distances

The event offers three distances:

  • Marathon (42.2 km)
  • Half Marathon (21.1 km)
  • 7 Mile (11.3 km)

Each distance has separate registration categories and pricing for youth (age 17 and under) and adult (age 18 and over) participants. Youth pricing is lower than adult pricing.

The Course

The course is a trail run that begins at sea level in Stinson Beach and climbs into the wooded trails of Muir Woods. Runners follow the Dipsea trail to Steep Ravine. The route includes features like a wooden ladder, natural rock and wooden staircases, and sections where runners go under tree trunks. The course passes by brooks and waterfalls and runs among redwoods and oak trees. The route offers panoramic views.

The event has a course cut-off time of 6.5 hours. Hikers and walkers are welcome to participate. For safety on narrow trails with steep drop-offs, headphones and other audio devices are not allowed.

Aid Stations & Logistics

There are multiple aid stations along the course. Organizers highly recommend that runners carry their own water.

Athlete check-in for bib pickup is available on the morning of the event at the start/finish area. For participants who receive their bib by mail, check-in is not required. The course is marked with orange ribbon, with specific turn instructions for the different distances.

Participant Incentives

All participants receive a t-shirt. Personalized award ribbons are mailed to the top three male and female finishers in each age group for all distances. Finisher medals are awarded to all marathon and half marathon finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
