MTC KELPIE : event overview

The MTC KELPIE is a one-day ultra running event on 6 June 2027 and forms Day 9 of the MTC SCOTIA nine-day end-to-end of Scotland. The race distance is 38 miles with total ascent of 1,753 ft and total descent of 1,929 ft. The route runs from Inver Caravan Park, Dunbeath to John O'Groats. The event is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge series and awards a bespoke finisher medal; male and female champions receive bespoke trophies.

Logistics, rules and kit

Competitor numbers are limited to 20 entries plus an additional allowance of 20 for SCOTIA competitors, for a maximum of 40 starters. Entrants must be aged 20 or over on the race day. The organiser enforces preset cut-offs based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this minimum may be withdrawn. The race is cup-free and competitors must provide their own reusable cup.

Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants only and emailed about four weeks before the event. Each competitor is issued a tracking device with an SOS function and real-time tracking is available during the race. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food.
