Event Overview

The MTC Beithir is a 39-mile (approximately 38.5-mile) ultra marathon. It is a point-to-point race starting at Forces Manor in Kingussie and finishing at Travelodge Inverness. The event is also Day 6 of the multi-day MTC Scotia challenge, a nine-day end-to-end run across Scotland.

Route and Checkpoints

The course passes through checkpoints at Boat of Garten and Inverness. The total ascent is 2,256 ft with a descent of 2,978 ft. Competitors are responsible for navigation and must follow the designated route. Route maps and GPX files are provided to entrants four weeks before the event.

Participant Requirements

The race has a strict minimum pace requirement of 4 mph. Competitors falling below this average speed will be withdrawn. Participation is capped at 40 runners (20 for the standalone MTC Beithir and an additional 20 for Scotia challengers). All entrants must be 20 years or older on race day.

Mandatory Kit

All competitors must carry a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, the provided maps, a compass or GPS device, a whistle, a mobile phone, an emergency food pack, and a basic first aid kit. The event is cup-free, so participants must bring their own reusable cup.

Logistics and Registration

Entry fees are non-refundable. A standard entry costs £90.00. An upgraded 'Race Package' entry, costing £155.00, includes an embroidered race shirt and a lightweight hi-viz jacket if purchased at least four weeks prior. Personal cancellation insurance is available as an add-on at checkout. All finishers receive a bespoke Beithir medal, with trophies awarded to the male and female champions.
